Breast Augmentation - specialist-led treatment at Axten

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that enhances breast size, fullness and symmetry using silicone implants or the patient's own fat. Many women seek it for naturally small breasts, volume loss after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss, noticeable asymmetry between the two sides, or to restore shape after previous surgery. It is one of the most frequently performed and well-studied cosmetic operations worldwide.

Modern augmentation is highly customisable. Implants come in different sizes, profiles and shapes - round or anatomical, smooth or textured - and can be placed above or below the chest muscle depending on your build. Fat transfer, which uses liposuction to harvest fat from your tummy or thighs and inject it into the breasts, offers a subtler, fully natural alternative for modest enhancement.

At Axten Hospitals, breast augmentation is performed exclusively by qualified plastic surgeons using internationally certified implants. Your consultation includes sizing trials so you can preview your result, and the quote you receive is a single honest, all-inclusive price with zero surprise billing. 0% EMI plans, a dedicated care coordinator and free post-surgery follow-ups complete the experience.

Symptoms of Breast Enhancement

  • Naturally small or underdeveloped breasts affecting confidence
  • Loss of breast volume and fullness after pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Deflated or sagging appearance after significant weight loss
  • Visible asymmetry - one breast noticeably smaller than the other
  • Clothes, blouses and swimwear not fitting proportionately
  • Desire to restore breast shape after previous surgery
  • Self-consciousness affecting body image and intimacy

Risks of delaying treatment

  • Breast enhancement is elective - there is no medical harm in waiting, but ongoing self-consciousness can affect confidence, wardrobe choices and intimacy
  • Progressive sagging with age or after future pregnancies may later require a combined lift, which is a longer surgery with more scars
  • Untreated marked asymmetry can cause posture adjustments, bra-fitting difficulties and persistent body-image distress
  • Delaying evaluation of any coexisting breast lump is unsafe - every lump must be assessed before cosmetic surgery

How is breast enhancement diagnosed?

Breast augmentation planning starts with a detailed consultation rather than a medical diagnosis. Your plastic surgeon measures breast width, height, nipple position and skin stretch, assesses existing breast tissue and chest wall shape, and discusses your goal size using sizers or 3D visualisation. This determines the ideal implant volume, profile and pocket placement - or whether fat transfer suits you better.

Pre-operative work-up includes routine blood tests, ECG and anaesthesia fitness assessment. Women over 40, or with a family history of breast cancer or any breast lump, undergo a baseline mammogram or ultrasound first. If there is significant sagging, the surgeon may recommend combining augmentation with a lift for the best shape.

Benefits of advanced treatment

  • Fuller, natural-looking breasts proportionate to your frame and preference
  • Corrects asymmetry and restores volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss
  • Choice of certified implants or your own fat for enhancement
  • Incisions hidden in the breast crease heal into fine, concealed lines
  • Long-lasting results - modern implants are durable for many years
  • Meaningful improvement in confidence, clothing fit and body image

Types of breast augmentation

Non-surgical options

  • Padded or push-up support garments - a temporary, external option that changes appearance in clothing only.
  • No cream, pill or massage has any scientific evidence for increasing breast size - beware of misleading products.

Surgical & procedural options

  • Silicone gel implant augmentation - the most popular option, using cohesive-gel implants that feel close to natural breast tissue.
  • Saline implant augmentation - implants filled with sterile salt water, less commonly chosen today.
  • Fat transfer augmentation - your own fat is harvested by liposuction and injected for a modest, fully natural volume increase.
  • Composite (hybrid) augmentation - an implant plus fat grafting around it for extra softness and cleavage refinement.
  • Augmentation-mastopexy - implant placement combined with a breast lift when there is both volume loss and sagging.

How breast augmentation is performed

How the procedure is performed

Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia and takes about 1-2 hours. The most common approach is a 4-5 cm incision hidden in the inframammary fold - the natural crease under the breast - though periareolar and transaxillary routes are options in selected cases. The surgeon creates a precise pocket either beneath the breast tissue (subglandular) or partly under the chest muscle (dual-plane), which suits slimmer patients with less natural cover.

The chosen implant is inserted using a no-touch funnel technique to minimise infection risk, positioned symmetrically, and checked with you in a sitting position on the table for natural shape and cleavage. Incisions are closed in fine layers with absorbable sutures and dressed with surgical tape; a supportive surgical bra is fitted before you wake up.

In fat-transfer augmentation, liposuction is first performed on the donor area, the fat is purified, and it is injected into the breasts in fine, layered passes. Most patients are discharged the same day or after one night, with mild tightness rather than severe pain.

Recovery & aftercare

  • Wear the supportive surgical bra day and night for 4-6 weeks; avoid underwired bras during this period
  • Return to desk work in 4-7 days; avoid lifting anything heavy for 2-3 weeks
  • Sleep on your back with slight elevation for the first two weeks
  • Swelling and tightness settle gradually - implants soften and 'drop' into natural position over 6-12 weeks
  • Resume lower-body exercise at 3 weeks and chest or upper-body workouts after 6 weeks with clearance

FAQs about breast augmentation

Which is better - breast implants or fat transfer?

It depends on your goals. Implants deliver a predictable, larger and rounder enhancement in one sitting. Fat transfer gives a subtler, completely natural increase of about one cup size, with the bonus of liposuction contouring, but some injected fat is reabsorbed. Your Axten plastic surgeon will examine your tissue and recommend the option that matches your expectations.

Are silicone breast implants safe?

Yes. Modern cohesive-gel silicone implants are among the most tested medical devices in the world and are approved by international regulators. At Axten we use only certified implant brands with manufacturer warranty cards. Routine self-checks and periodic imaging are advised long term, and any concerns are reviewed free at your follow-up visits.

Will breast implants look and feel natural?

With correct sizing and placement, yes. Choosing an implant proportionate to your chest measurements and placing it in a dual-plane pocket under the muscle gives a soft, natural slope and feel, especially in slim women. During consultation you can trial sizers so you see the expected result before deciding.

Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?

In most cases, yes. The implant sits behind the breast tissue or muscle, away from the milk glands and ducts. The inframammary (breast-crease) incision used at Axten avoids cutting through glandular tissue. Most women who could breastfeed before augmentation can do so after, though it is sensible to inform your obstetrician about the implants.

How long do breast implants last?

Implants are durable but not considered lifetime devices. Modern cohesive-gel implants commonly last 10-15 years or longer, and many never need replacement. You should have them reviewed if you notice a change in shape, firmness or discomfort. Axten's free follow-up programme includes long-term implant health checks.

What is the cost of breast augmentation in India?

At Axten Hospitals, breast augmentation costs ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,80,000 all-inclusive, depending on the implant brand, technique and city. The quote covers implants, surgeon, anaesthesia, theatre, bra and follow-up visits - with zero surprise billing. Convenient 0% EMI plans let you pay in easy instalments. Call 8156-92-92-92 for an exact quote.

How painful is recovery after augmentation?

Most women describe tightness and muscle soreness - similar to a strenuous chest workout - rather than severe pain, especially for the first 3-5 days. Oral painkillers control it well. Submuscular placement causes slightly more initial soreness than subglandular. Nearly all patients are off regular painkillers within a week and back to routine quickly.

Will surgery affect mammograms or cancer screening later?

You can and should continue routine breast screening after augmentation. Inform the radiology team about your implants; they use special displacement views (Eklund technique) and may add ultrasound or MRI for complete evaluation. Implants do not increase breast cancer risk, and screening remains accurate with the right techniques.
